Online sales at convenience stores

Online sales at convenience stores

Japan has one of the largest numbers of convenience stores in the world, with approximately 55,000. Convenience stores in Japan offer a wide variety of products such as snacks, drinks, books, and toiletries, and most of them are open 24 hours a day.

7-Eleven, the largest convenience store chain in Japan, focuses not only on sales at its physical stores, but also on delivery services. 7-Eleven is taking advantage of its store locations all over Japan to deliver products to customers as quickly as possible. Customers can launch the online 7-Eleven app, which will display nearby stores from which they can receive home delivery services. Currently, the service is limited to certain areas of Japan, but it can deliver products to customers within 30 minutes after they order. More than 90% of the products in 7-Eleven’s physical stores can be ordered online, covering about 2,800 different products.

People today expect products to reach them as quickly as possible, so the ability to have products delivered within 30 minutes is revolutionary. Amazon can deliver products to customers within a day, but it will be difficult to deliver within 30 minutes without the use of drones. However, Amazon has also publicly stated that it will be using drones for service delivery within a few years, so it is likely to become 7-Eleven’s biggest competitor.
