Keisuke Honda Criticised for Hosting a Party During the Pandemic

Japanese professional footballer Keisuke Honda has attracted criticism from netizens for hosting a party in Brazil during the coronavirus pandemic. The event in question was a farewell gathering; Honda left the Brazilian football team Botafogo on 30 December last year. A video of the event was posted on the internet, showing the party guests dancing together without masks.

Honda told journalists that his football team has been getting together without wearing masks for pre-match meals throughout the pandemic, and so there should be no problem with throwing a party.

Honda has regularly criticised the Japanese government’s approach to the Covid-19 crisis through Twitter and other social networking sites. Many have further criticised Honda for his lack of remorse, saying he is in no position to give an opinion on the government.

Currently, the number of people infected by the coronavirus is continuing to increase in many countries, and healthcare services are struggling worldwide. Doctors, nurses, and other health professionals are risking their lives to treat coronavirus patients, and there are now multiple strains of the virus being transmitted in several regions of the world. Now more than ever, it is important to think and act with the safety of ourselves and others in mind.
